These Recipes Were Popular for a Reason
Sometimes, the best recipes are to be found on the back of boxes. Maybe your mom used to cut them out and collect them? Luckily, a lot of them have survived until the present day, and now they can be easily found on the Internet! We have 12 of the best ones here for you.
Chex Mix for Parties
People used to use this stuff to make party mix and it worked really well. Mix 3 cups each of Corn, Rice, and Wheat Chex, plus 1 cup mixed nuts, 1 cup bite‑size pretzels, and 1 cup bagel chips. Melt 6 Tbsp butter, then stir in 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 1/2 tsp seasoned salt, three quarters tsp garlic powder, and 1/2 tsp onion powder for the cereal and co. There you have it!
Nestle Toll House Cookies
So many people know how to make Nestle Toll House Cookies, but just in case you don’t here’s the back-of-box recipe: Whip up 2 1/4 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1 tsp salt. Cream 1 cup softened butter with 3/4 cup each granulated and brown sugar, then beat in 1 tsp vanilla and 2 eggs. Fold in 2 cups Nestlé Toll House chocolate chips (plus nuts if you're feeling fancy). Bisquick Impossibly Easy Cheeseburger Pie
Okay, this sounds kinda gross and sometimes meets with mockery online, but you still want to learn how to make it, right? Betty Crocker has the recipe: Cook 1 lb lean ground beef and a chopped onion in a skillet, season with about 1/2 tsp salt. Spread it in a greased pie plate and sprinkle on 1 cup shredded cheddar. In a bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup Bisquick mix, 1 cup milk, and 2 eggs, then pour over the beef. Bake at 400 °F for 25 minutes until set, let it rest, slice, and dig in!
Knorr Spinach Dip
Spinach is very good for you, so here’s one to try if you’re eating healthily. To make it, first thaw and dry a 10‑oz bag of frozen chopped spinach. Mix it with a 16‑oz tub of sour cream, 1 cup mayo, and 1 Knorr vegetable‑recipe‑mix packet. Stir in drained, chopped water chestnuts and sliced green onions if you like. Chill for at least two hours. That’s it!
Kraft Fantasy Fudge
This one is… less healthy. To make Kraft Fantasy Fudge, mix 3 cups sugar, 3/4 cup butter (or margarine), and 2/3 cup evaporated milk in a saucepan. Bring to a full boil, stirring for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in a 12‑oz bag of chocolate chips until melted, then mix in a 7‑oz jar of marshmallow creme, 1 cup chopped walnuts, and 1 tsp vanilla. Spread into a greased pan, cool an hour, and cut into squares. Delicious.
